Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor, journalist and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. As a child with her family in New York City, Mitchell graduated with a BA degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as journalist for television and radio within Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. Mitchell was hired by the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She then became a Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. Beginning in 1981, she began working for the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. Then she was named chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign correspondent at NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has appeared in the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the 1988 debates between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988 throughout both the terms of President Ronald Reagan. She reported on a number of noteworthy events such as arms control, taxes on the budget, as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to numerous summits in the company of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
